Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be moving to a foreign country to live, let alone a country in the Middle East. Over the 2009 Christmas and New Year’s holidays, my husband Roger and I discussed what we wanted the next part of our life to be like. He thought that before retiring, he would like to do one more airport project but only if he could find something very interesting. I half-jokingly agreed that would be fine but could he try for an exotic location? As usual, Roger came through and soon we were headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This blog is a recap of our "leap-of- faith" wanderings around the Middle East and beyond. We joyfully share these expat experiences.

Blogging Boomers Carnival #234

MasksIt's Contemporary Retirement's turn (and pleasure), once again, to host the Blogging Boomers this week...
First up, John at SoBabyBoomer tells us that for some, Thanksgiving is pretty lonely when your own flesh and blood can't make it home for even a brief visit.  On the other hand, you might delight in your freedom from turkey tyranny.  Either way, if you're a Baby Boomer lacking nestlings for the first time, you'll likely need to adjust holiday plans to better suit your new lifestyle.

As a clown in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Anne, otherwise known as theAccidental Locavore, knows that when you get up at 5:00 AM and greet thousands of kids wearing a red nose, cooking tons of food after walking four miles is not an option.
In her usual way of combining something she's just seen, with how it relates to her own midlife experience, Laura Lee, theMidlife Crisis Queen shares what the movie "The Help" has to do with Writing and Empowerment
PAUL MCCARTNEY... ROCK STAR – A Knight On The Run still rocks the Boomers at the “hottest track in the Formula 1 circuit".  But, for Katie at Arabian Tales and Other Amazing Adventures, those fast cars pale in comparison to a rockin' McCartney concert.
Lucie at Midlife Musings learns that there are time our children teach us how to stop worrying and when it's time to start living for ourselves.

Tom Sightings wonders about the Penn State sex scandal - how do these things happen, who's to blame, how do we navigate the blurry psychological issues, and what does it all say about the rest of us?
And from me: If you retired and found that, without the routine of work to fill your day, you had absolutely nothing in common with your spouse, you're not alone.  Check outthe rise of 'silver separations'.
