Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be moving to a foreign country to live, let alone a country in the Middle East. Over the 2009 Christmas and New Year’s holidays, my husband Roger and I discussed what we wanted the next part of our life to be like. He thought that before retiring, he would like to do one more airport project but only if he could find something very interesting. I half-jokingly agreed that would be fine but could he try for an exotic location? As usual, Roger came through and soon we were headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This blog is a recap of our "leap-of- faith" wanderings around the Middle East and beyond. We joyfully share these expat experiences.

Boomer Blogger Carnival #270

Hurry Hurry, Step this Way!  the Baby Boomers are Blogging.  Visit this week's Carnival:

Articles include a case for gray hair, reconnecting with family, a riveting blueberry debate, a look at one-quarter of Americans who do not qualify for health insurance and how Mitt will handle, shall we Pinterest, travelers most ridiculous stories and tips on buying from salespersons who knock on your door!  Enjoy!

Eliza at Silver & Grace blog asks "When, oh when, will businesses who target women realize that there is a huge huge group of us who embrace our gray hair?"   It is one thing to ignore us, but it is another thing entirely to trash talk us. I have to say, this just makes me angry. It is time to speak up in support of gray hair.

Tom Sightings recently had a visit from a family member.  He reflects on how our relationships with our siblings ebb and flow inCan You Reconnect with Family? and wonders if you, too, have lost touch with a sibling and then connected back up again later in life.

The Accidental Locavore is making trouble again. This time it’s blueberries. Do you prefer the big ones from New Jersey or the more petite ones from Maine? See why I think blueberries really reflect their origins.

The Midlife Crisis Queen is looking at the one-quarter of Americans who do not qualify for health insurance, and wondering what Mitt and his friends plan to do to help them.  She also recommends a quick assessment of the many limitations you might harbor in your own mind without even knowing it!
SoBabyBoomer asks the question,

For a good adventure read about travelers best, worst and most ridiculous stories from the road in newly published book, "From the Grand Canyon to the Great Wall," a compilation of stories from some very adventurous travel writers. Arabian Tales' Katie Foster is quite pleased that editor David included her story on Bull Butting In Fujairah. Make sure you get a copy. It is a really interesting read.
This week, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, wrote on The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide about using caution when buying home security systems from salespersons who knock on doors. Every summer, the Better Business Bureau receives complaints from homeowners alleging high-pressure sales tactics and promises that were never fulfilled.
